40 Bible Verses to Read When You’re Waiting on God

by Alison Leave a Comment

Bible verses for a waiting season

Waiting on God can be incredibly difficult because we don’t know His timing. We don’t always know what He’s doing behind the scenes or whether there are things He’s asking us to do while we wait. It’s easy to become uncertain about our role in receiving the good things God has promised us.

As believers, we have the beautiful responsibility of partnering with God by saying “yes” to what He has promised in His Word. By faith, we can agree with Him and take hold of everything He has already made available to us through Christ. But while we’re waiting, it’s vital that we continue to grow our faith.

Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word or Christ.” The only way our faith grows is by continually filling ourselves with God’s Word. That’s why we need to keep His promises at the forefront of our minds, meditating on them daily until they become deeply rooted in our hearts.

In this current season of my life, I’ve experienced the reality of waiting. I’ve been believing God for a child for over eight years. Every year that passes, I grow older, and naturally there are moments when I could choose fear, disappointment, or discouragement. Instead, I’ve learned to come back to God’s Word.

These Scriptures have become my anchor.

I’ve written them down, spoken them out loud, meditated on them, and allowed them to strengthen my faith day after day. Because of that, I’ve experienced a peace and joy that can only come from God. My waiting season has not robbed me of the joy of living because God has continually met me here. He has comforted me, encouraged me, and reminded me over and over again that He is a good Father.

Before You Read These Verses

I believe with all my heart that God is not withholding good things from His children. I’m in a waiting season, but that doesn’t change His character. He is loving, faithful, kind, and trustworthy. He alone can truly satisfy, comfort, and strengthen us while we wait.

That’s why it’s so important to guard the way we think about God during seasons of waiting. If we begin to believe that He is distant, uncaring, or deliberately withholding good things from us, our faith will be hindered. But when we see Him as the good Father that He is, it becomes so much easier to trust His timing and believe His promises.

My prayer is that these Scriptures become more than just verses you read once and move on from. I encourage you to choose the ones that speak most deeply to your heart. Write them down. Place them somewhere you’ll see them every day. Speak them out loud over your life because there is power in our words. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue‘

As you speak God’s Word, you’ll hear it with your own earsโ€”and faith grows by hearing the Word of God.

Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through these verses. These aren’t simply a collection of encouraging Scriptures I’ve gathered together. They have been intentionally chosen because they reveal God’s heart for those who are waiting. My prayer is that they strengthen your faith, fill you with hope, and remind you that God is faithful to every promise He has made.

No matter what you’re waiting for, remember this: God is still good, He is still working, and He is always worth trusting.

40 Encouraging Bible Verses to Grow Your Faith

1. Isaiah 40:31

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

One of the most comforting promises in Scripture. Waiting on God isn’t wasted timeโ€”it’s where He renews our strength for the journey ahead.

2. Psalm 27:14

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Waiting requires courage. God invites us to remain strong, trusting that He knows exactly when the answer should come.

3. Lamentations 3:25

“The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;“

God is good to those who patiently seek Him and place their hope in Him. Even when answers feel delayed, His goodness never changes.

4. Lamentations 3:26

“it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

There is blessing in quietly trusting God instead of trying to force answers in our own timing.

5. Psalm 37:7

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”

Rest in God’s presence. Instead of comparing your journey with others or becoming frustrated by delays, choose patience and trust.

6. Psalm 37:34

“Hope in the Lord and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it.”

Continue obeying God while you wait. Faithfulness today prepares you for the promises He has ahead.

7. Micah 7:7

“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”

Even when circumstances seem hopeless, keep your eyes on God because He hears every prayer and never ignores His children.

8. Habakkuk 2:3

“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”

God’s promises always arrive at the right time. If His answer seems delayed, don’t lose hopeโ€”it will come according to His perfect timing.

9. Romans 8:25

“But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

Hope means trusting God for what we cannot yet see. Patience grows as we confidently expect Him to keep His promises.

10. James 5:7

“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lordโ€™s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.”

Like a farmer patiently waits for the harvest after planting seeds, believers are called to patiently trust God’s timing.

11. James 5:8

“You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”

Strengthen your heart because God’s plans are unfolding, even when you can’t see them yet.

12. Psalm 130:5

“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.”

The psalmist chooses to wait expectantly because God’s Word has proven trustworthy time and time again.

13. Psalm 130:6

“I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.”

Just as people eagerly wait for the sunrise after a long night, we can eagerly wait for God’s faithfulness to appear.

14. Proverbs 3:5โ€“6

‘Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.’

Trust God with every part of your life instead of relying only on your own understanding. He promises to guide your path.

15. Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

God’s plans for His people are filled with hope and purpose. Even seasons of waiting are part of His greater plan.

16. Ecclesiastes 3:1

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:”

Every season has its purpose. Waiting is not punishmentโ€”it’s often preparation.

17. Psalm 46:10

He says, โ€œBe still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.โ€

Sometimes the greatest act of faith is to be still, knowing God is completely in control.

18. Exodus 14:14

“Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still.”

You don’t have to fight every battle yourself. Sometimes God simply asks you to stand still while He fights on your behalf.

19. Exodus 14:13

“Moses said to the people, ‘Donโ€™t be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again.'”

When fear tries to overwhelm you, remember that God is already working to bring deliverance.

20. Psalm 62:5

“My soul, wait in silence for God alone, for my expectation is from him.”

True hope comes from God alone. When everything else feels uncertain, He remains your steady foundation.

21. Psalm 62:1

“My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him.”

Real peace is found by quietly resting in God, knowing your salvation and security come from Him.

22. Isaiah 30:18

“Therefore Yahweh will wait, that he may be gracious to you; and therefore he will be exalted, that he may have mercy on you. For Yahweh is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him.”

God eagerly desires to show compassion and grace. Those who patiently wait for Him will experience His blessing.

23. Isaiah 64:4

“For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen a God besides you, who works for him who waits for him.”

God works in ways we often cannot see. He is actively moving on behalf of those who trust Him.

24. Psalm 25:3

“Yes, no one who waits for you shall be shamed. They shall be shamed who deal treacherously without cause.”

Those who place their hope in God will never ultimately be disappointed or put to shame.

25. Psalm 25:5

“Guide me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation. I wait for you all day long.”

Let God teach and guide you each day as you wait. His truth brings confidence even in uncertain seasons.

26. Psalm 33:20

“Our soul has waited for Yahweh. He is our help and our shield.”

God is both our help and our protection. We wait with confidence because we know who He is.

27. Psalm 33:22

“Let your loving kindness be on us, Yahweh, since we have hoped in you.”

God’s unfailing love surrounds everyone who chooses to place their hope in Him.

28. Romans 12:12

“Rejoicing in hope, enduring in troubles, continuing steadfastly in prayer.”

Stay joyful because of your hope, remain patient during hardship, and never stop praying.

29. Galatians 6:9

“Letโ€™s not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season if we donโ€™t give up.”

Don’t give up doing what is right. At the proper time, God promises that your faithfulness will produce a harvest.

30. Hebrews 10:36

“For you need endurance so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise.”

Sometimes the greatest act of faith is simply refusing to give up. Keep obeying God, trusting that His promises are worth every moment of waiting.

31. Psalms 27:14

“Here’s what I’ve learnt through it al: Don’T give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope. Yes, keep on waiting- for He will never disappoint you.”

This verse has been one of my favourites to hold onto. Even though our circumstances are important to God, it’s HIM who will never disappoint us.

32. Psalm 23:1โ€“4 (WEB)

“Yahweh is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his nameโ€™s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

God never abandons His children in difficult seasons. Even when you’re walking through a valley of waiting, He is your Shepherdโ€”guiding, providing, restoring, and comforting you every step of the way.

33. John 14:27 (WEB)

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Donโ€™t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.”

The peace Jesus offers isn’t dependent on your circumstances. Even while you’re waiting for your breakthrough, He can fill your heart with a peace that surpasses understanding.

34. John 16:33 (WEB)

“I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have oppression; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.”

Waiting isn’t always easy, but Jesus reminds us that our hope isn’t found in our circumstancesโ€”it’s found in Him. Because He has overcome the world, we can face every season with confidence.

35. Romans 15:13 (WEB)

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope in the power of the Holy Spirit.”

God doesn’t just give us hopeโ€”He is the God of hope. As you continue trusting Him, He fills your heart with supernatural joy, peace, and confidence through the Holy Spirit.

36. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (WEB)

“He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.”

If God has spoken a promise over your life, you can trust Him to fulfill it. His faithfulness never depends on your circumstancesโ€”it depends on His unchanging character.

37. Psalm 55:22 (WEB)

“Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.”

You were never meant to carry the weight of your worries alone. Give every burden to God and allow Him to sustain you while you wait.

38. 1 Peter 5:7 (WEB)

“Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.”

God cares deeply about every detail of your life. Nothing is too small or too insignificant to bring before Him in prayer.

39. Psalm 40:1 (WEB)

“I waited patiently for Yahweh. He turned to me, and heard my cry.”

Waiting is never wasted when it’s done with God. He hears every prayer, sees every tear, and responds in His perfect timing.

40. Hebrews 6:15 (WEB)

“Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.”

Many of God’s greatest promises require perseverance. Like Abraham, continue trusting God even when the waiting feels long, knowing that His promises are always worth it.

What to do now…

Now that you have these scriptures, choose your top 10 – the ones that really resonated with you and encouraged you. Write them down in a journal or on index cards.

Spend 5-10 a day reading them outloud, asking the Lord about what He’s saying through them and just meditate on them throughout the day.

I promise you that if you keep these words in the forefront of your mind, doubt, anxiety and fear will not have the same affect on your life, because you will be growing your faith and changing the way your mind thinks and responds to your circumstance.

I hope these verses bless you and I want you to know everything will be ok xx

And 2 months ago my husband, dog and I moved to Germany. ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

So whatโ€™s next for us? โœจ

-I am learning German, itโ€™s hard so feel free to encourage me lol

-I wonโ€™t be able to work for a while so Iโ€™m LIVING IT UP (mostly with pastries)

-Aldrin has some interviews coming up for work (he is German so he can start working straight away)

-We are living with friends, in their built out attic and it has been the best way to start in a foreign country - instant community, pizza nights, bbqโ€™s etc..

-We are loving being a part of a smaller Church, feels already like family

-In a few months we will start looking for our own place, which will make it feel real that this Country is home

-Attainable travel in Europe is a dream come true and Iโ€™ll be sharing it all!

-We feel so privileged and blessed to be living in our 3rd Country together ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

-Big life transitions are hard (miss family and friends everyday) but thankfulness has been the key for us

-Lastly, Aldrins cousin made us a cake to welcome us here to Germany from Australia and then the US๐Ÿฅน what is my life?!

-Marrying a permanent resident is NOT the same as marrying a US Citizen. It took me 2 years to be allowed back into the US. Marrying a citizen is much faster, knowing that in advance would have been helpful lol ๐Ÿ˜‘

-Every state in the US is almost like a different Country, they have their own culture and laws, unlike Australia where they are much more similar

-Public transport is so different in the US (unless you live in a major City.) So many people I know there have never been on a train before ๐Ÿคฏ

-Not having free medical insurance is just like in the movies, itโ€™s hard to plan financially and save, Iโ€™ll forever be grateful for Australiaโ€™s medical system

-The work/life balance is probably my least favourite things about living in the US. US employees are actually not always legally entitled to paid holidays, but on average employees do provide on average around 5-10 paid vacation days a year.

-Thanksgiving is the best! We love it and want to incorporate it into our traditions ๐Ÿฆƒ

-Writing dates backwards I am used to now, but it took forever! My birthday is 28/7 but in the US it is 7/28โ€ฆ

-Americans are sO good at championing each other and celebrating peoples success, itโ€™s such a beautiful part of their culture! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

-Squirels look just like they do in the cartoons ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

-Lastly, donโ€™t ask for a side of โ€˜chipsโ€™ with your burger, you will be disappointed ๐Ÿ˜†
