10 Reasons You’re Not Making Money Online Yet

10 Reasons You’re Not Making Money Online Yet

Alright friend… let’s have an honest conversation for a minute.

I see sooo often, people on social media sharing about how ‘easy’ it is to make money online… and we get all starry eyed and jump in thinking we will be the first millionaire in our family and finally live a financially free life…

Honestly, I jumped in with those same thoughts. Because if someone is promoting something they usually only share the good parts… the parts that sound like the *dream* we have been searching for! We see it everywhere — screenshots, testimonials, stories of women building income from home while the kids nap or after work in the evenings.

And yet… so many beginners start with motivation and excitement, and then a few weeks later, they feel stuck.

Then we start believing maybe we are the problem, or maybe we were lied too and ‘making money online’ is just a fantasy…

But HOLD UP friend, because the good news is, there are patterns behind why beginners struggle. Predictable ones. And once you see them clearly, you can avoid them.

So let’s walk through the 10 Reasons You’re Not Making Money Online Yet, and what to do next.

***This post may contain affiliate links, but It won’t cost you anything extra. You can read the full disclosure here.***

1. You Thought It Would Work Quickly

One of the biggest misconceptions about making money online is the belief that if it’s legitimate, it should work fast, like really fast.

Come on we’ve all thought it!.

You try something for a few weeks. You post consistently. You spend hours on your captions. You watch tutorials. And when the income doesn’t immediately follow, doubt starts overshadowing, and it starts to not be fun anymore.

Online business is still business. It requires learning skills, refining messaging, and building momentum. When you expect instant results, you misinterpret the LEARNING PHASE AS FAILURE (ok you can go now, that was the most important part lol)

I want you to clearly hear this. You are NOT the problem. Anyone can be successful with making money online, you just need to learn the right skills and keep showing up – that’s it!

2. You’re Treating It Like a Shortcut Instead of a Skill

Many make money online mistakes happen because people treat online income like a quick hack rather than something that requires development.

Sales, marketing, messaging, positioning — these are skills, you’re not born understand them you *have* to learn them!

If you wouldn’t expect to master a profession in 30 days at a new job, why expect it online?

When you shift from “shortcut” to “skill set,” everything changes, and you start seeing it for what it really is. I would say you have to give it a MINIMUM of 6 months…but even for some people they only started seeing breakthrough after the 6 month period, so there’s really no rule. You just have to give it time, keep learning the skills and be persistent.

3. Shiny Object Syndrome Keeps Pulling You Away

You start with affiliate marketing. Then someone says TikTok Shop is better. Then AI automation. Then Pinterest traffic. Then UGC. Then something else (been there haha…)

Every opportunity sounds promising.

But every pivot resets your progress.

Income online compounds when you stay in one lane long enough to build traction. Constant switching feels productive — but it DELAYS results (trust me!)

4. You’re Trying to Build an Empire Before a Foundation

This one is so common.

You want multiple income streams (which is smart). You want security. You want growth.

So you try to:

Build a personal brand.
Launch a digital product.
Start affiliate marketing.
Grow two platforms.
Create an email funnel.

All at once. For a while you feel productive, but all it does is leave you feeling overwhelmed, because you haven’T built a foundation in anything yet.

Sustainable income is built in layers. Stabilise one stream first. Strengthen it. Then expand.

Why Most Beginners Fail at Making Money Online

5. You’re Measuring Progress Only by Money

At the beginning, we are just looking for the numbers in our bank account to get higher, that’s the reason we start this right?

You’re building confidence.
You’re improving your content.
You’re learning what works.
You’re collecting data.

But because there isn’t immediate income, you assume it’s all for nothing. I had many cry sessions with my husband, feeling like such a failure because I was making almost nothing in the early days. But that’s like going to University and crying because you aren’t getting paid what others are who were already working in their profession.

Money is a lagging indicator. Skill and consistency come first.

6. You’re Quitting Right Before Momentum Builds

This is the hard truth.

Most beginners quit just before things begin to click.

Online income doesn’t usually explode overnight. It compounds slowly. And if you stop during the quiet phase, you never reach the compounding phase.

Momentum requires repetition — and repetition requires belief before evidence.

That’s not easy. But it’s powerful and sooo important!

7. You Don’t Have a Clear System

Trying to piece together random YouTube videos, free downloads, and so much differing advice creates confusion.

Confusion leads to hesitation.
Hesitation leads to inconsistency.
Inconsistency leads to NO results.

A proven system gives you order. It gives you a starting point and a next step. And for beginners, clarity is everything. This is honestly what changed everything for me. Once I knew what to do and why, then it was just up to me to give it everything I wanted to give it.

8. You’re Guessing Instead of Following Structure

Without structure, every decision feels heavy.

Should I post this?
Should I pivot?
Should I change my niche?

When you follow one clear path, you eliminate most beginner online business mistakes simply because you’re not reinventing the wheel every week.

Structure reduces overwhelm and helps you focus on the most important parts without getting overwhelmed.

9. You’re Focused on Being Impressive Instead of Being Consistent

Many beginners feel pressure to look established before they’ve built anything.

They wait until their branding is perfect.
They wait until they feel confident.
They wait until everything looks polished.

I’ve also seen many people lie about their income claims, to try and gain trust with their audience. This only hinders your own confidence and integrity.

Consistency – not your image is what’s important here.

You need to show up, refine and adjust every single day.

And that steady approach compounds over time.

10 Reasons You’re Not Making Money Online Yet

10. You’re Not Treating It Like a Real Business

The beginners who succeed don’t always look extraordinary at the start.

But they do one thing differently: they treat their online income like a real business, not a temporary experiment.

They choose one model, commit to it, invest in learning properly, and then stay steady when it’s quiet.

And over time, that discipline pays off.

If you’ve been wondering why beginners fail at making money online, I hope these 10 Reasons You’re Not Making Money Online Yet give you clarity, and hope. Because unless you’re not putting the effort in, it’s not your fault and it can be fixed!!

Because most struggles aren’t about intelligence. They’re about direction.

When you remove guesswork and follow structured digital marketing systems — especially faceless models that simplify what you need to do each day — you stop chasing and start BUILDING.

And that shift can make the difference between quitting… and finally gaining traction.

If you are reading this and feeling like you are missing the right strategy for your online business I encourage you to have a look at different ways to make money online that I will share below. Decide which one will support the direction you are going and commit to the strategy until you start seeing results.

What an experience! It was so beautiful and interesting. Filled with so much history, breathtaking architecture and weeds and nudity…

What a combination.

My family roots are 100% Dutch. It’s my grandparents home from both sides. It’s special to me and I loved being there. But the spiritual darkness that is there is real.

Who else has been and what was your experience?

8 years ago I moved abroad to the US from Australi 8 years ago I moved abroad to the US from Australia.
And 2 months ago my husband, dog and I moved to Germany. 🇩🇪

So what’s next for us? ✨

-I am learning German, it’s hard so feel free to encourage me lol

-I won’t be able to work for a while so I’m LIVING IT UP (mostly with pastries)

-Aldrin has some interviews coming up for work (he is German so he can start working straight away)

-We are living with friends, in their built out attic and it has been the best way to start in a foreign country - instant community, pizza nights, bbq’s etc..

-We are loving being a part of a smaller Church, feels already like family

-In a few months we will start looking for our own place, which will make it feel real that this Country is home

-Attainable travel in Europe is a dream come true and I’ll be sharing it all!

-We feel so privileged and blessed to be living in our 3rd Country together 🇦🇺🇺🇸🇩🇪

-Big life transitions are hard (miss family and friends everyday) but thankfulness has been the key for us

-Lastly, Aldrins cousin made us a cake to welcome us here to Germany from Australia and then the US🥹 what is my life?!

THINGS I WISH I’D KNOWN BEFORE IMMIGRATING TO THE THINGS I WISH I’D KNOWN BEFORE IMMIGRATING TO THE USA 🇺🇸 FROM AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺
⬇️
-Marrying a permanent resident is NOT the same as marrying a US Citizen. It took me 2 years to be allowed back into the US. Marrying a citizen is much faster, knowing that in advance would have been helpful lol 😑

-Every state in the US is almost like a different Country, they have their own culture and laws, unlike Australia where they are much more similar

-Public transport is so different in the US (unless you live in a major City.) So many people I know there have never been on a train before 🤯

-Not having free medical insurance is just like in the movies, it’s hard to plan financially and save, I’ll forever be grateful for Australia’s medical system

-The work/life balance is probably my least favourite things about living in the US. US employees are actually not always legally entitled to paid holidays, but on average employees do provide on average around 5-10 paid vacation days a year.

-Thanksgiving is the best! We love it and want to incorporate it into our traditions 🦃

-Writing dates backwards I am used to now, but it took forever! My birthday is 28/7 but in the US it is 7/28…

-Americans are sO good at championing each other and celebrating peoples success, it’s such a beautiful part of their culture! 🙌🏼

-Squirels look just like they do in the cartoons 🐿️

-Lastly, don’t ask for a side of ‘chips’ with your burger, you will be disappointed 😆
