Isn’t there something magical about Castles? I just love them. So now that I am living in Germany, people have been asking if I have seen any Castles and if I am going to go and stay in any. It’s crazy that I am now being asked that question! My life is a dream. I looked up Castles in Germany that you can actually stay in. There are many more that you can visit and tour. Nevertheless, if you can actually stay a night or two in a Castle I think it would be a dream!
Growing up in Australia, we have buildings people call “castles”… but then you come to Europe and realize these castles are on a completely different level. Huge stone walls, towers, mountain views, hidden gardens, dramatic staircases, centuries of history… it honestly feels like stepping into a fairytale.
Ever since moving here, I’ve become slightly obsessed with researching castle stays in Germany because if you can sleep in a castle at least once in your life… shouldn’t you?!
There are so many castles in Germany you can visit and tour during the day, but finding the ones you can actually stay overnight in is where things get really exciting.
I researched some of the highest-rated castle hotels in Germany and chose the ones I personally added to my bucket list. I picked them based on:
- the overall atmosphere and beauty
- how much of the actual castle you get to experience
- location and nearby things to do
- food and amenities
- whether it genuinely feels magical and memorable
So if you’re planning a Germany trip and want a fairytale experience, here are 8 beautiful castle hotels in Germany that you can actually stay in.

- modernized
- spa-focused
While others are:
- deeply historic
- more rustic
- very medieval feeling

3. Book Early
Especially during:
- Christmas market season
- summer
- autumn
- school holidays
The best castle hotels book up FAST.
4. Renting A Car Helps A Lot
Many castle hotels are located in countryside regions or small towns, so having a car makes exploring much easier.
